CASE STUDY
COMMUNITY-LED
WASTE MANAGEMENT
AWARENESS PROGRAM
In 2025, a community-led waste
management awareness program
was implemented at a local Batam
school. Using a student-champion
model, 36 students, appointed as Waste
Champions, led waste segregation,
peer education, and monitoring
activities over three months, supported
by teachers and technical guidance
from the Batam City Environmental
Department. McDermott enabled the
program through training, facilitation
and provision of 3R infrastructure.
CASE STUDY
RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR SCHOOLS
In partnership with the Third Planet Foundation, McDermott
implemented a Renewable Energy for Schools initiative across three
government schools in Chennai. The project installed 8 kW solar
energy systems and 100 LPH RO water puri昀椀cation units in school,
improving energy reliability, access to safe drinking water, and
student health. The initiative bene昀椀ted 4,788 students and reduced
approximately 15 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
