HUMAN RIGHTS
Conducting our business responsibly
We conduct our operations in accordance with applicable laws and with respect for human rights,
informed by the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and consistent with
the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.
McDermott’s Code of Business Conduct and Modern Slavery Statement provide further guidance on our efforts to conduct business
responsibly and respect human rights. In addition, we expect our suppliers and subcontractors to perform their business while respecting our
Supplier Code of Conduct, and we take an absolute stance against prohibited conduct such as forced or child labor.
In 2024, we continued a risk-based approach to due diligence at our projects and facilities, with consideration to managing worker welfare
and aligning with international client and regulatory expectations. We use our Speak Up program and, where applicable, local grievance
mechanisms to remedy issues or concerns.
We conduct worker interviews at selected facilities and sites. The interviews help us to understand workers’ views on welfare-related topics
and ensure we are quick to address any areas of concern. The interviews prioritize members of vulnerable groups, including internal migrants,
janitorial/housekeeping personnel, and persons with disabilities. Our intention is to ensure we have a direct channel with workers; interviews
also mean we understand and recognize workers as individuals.
In 2024, our Code of Business Conduct training included expanded content on modern slavery for all employees. Further activities such as
inductions and toolbox talks provide additional ways to check in and reinforce key topics relating to human rights issues and concerns.
We also increased our focus on supplier due diligence at targeted locations, cascading expectations on worker welfare by establishing
sustainability requirements in subcontractor Master Service Agreements and reviews in technical bid evaluations. To ensure the expectations
are well understood, our human rights teams also provide training and hands-on support from contract kick-off onward, supporting critical
subcontractors in developing their own worker welfare plans and monitoring their execution.
Our cross-functional collaboration has
been key to addressing human rights
throughout our operations, including
in subcontractor assessments and
capacity building on human rights.
