NATIONAL CONTENT
Empowering our local workforce through training
Our approach to national content is integral to achieving
successful project outcomes by fostering local expertise,
economic growth, and long-term partnerships in the countries
where we operate.
Stakeholder engagement is central to how we interact with
communities, ensuring our projects align with national priorities
and local values. We ful昀椀ll our commitments by creating jobs,
providing training, and building capacity that drives lasting,
positive change.
We established training centers in key fabrication locations such
as Qingdao, China, and Batam, Indonesia. In 2024, we expanded
with the opening of the Altamira Technical Training Center in
Mexico, replicating our proven programs, curriculum, and facility
design.
Our high-quality training centers demonstrate our commitment to
our culture of continuous learning and provide a competitive edge
by embedding the highest standards of safety, ef昀椀ciency, and
quality in project execution.
The Altamira center is also designed to maintain our competitive
edge by upholding the highest standards of safety and quality in
project execution.
ANGOLA
UGANDA
In Angola, we continue to support a graduate development
program. By showing their skills and capability while on this project,
the participants transition into development assignments in
various McDermott locations. This exposure adds an extra layer to
their learning, enriching their perspectives, and contributing to the
well-rounded expertise that McDermott values.
In 2024, we were once again recognized by the Petroleum Authority
of Uganda (PAU) for our national content efforts in the country. For
the second consecutive year, we received the National Content
Award for Capacity Building and Technology Transfer. The award
attests to our commitment to equip Ugandans with critical skills
and knowledge to support the nation’s growing energy industry.
MALAYSIA
In Uganda, where local expertise in the energy sector is still
developing, capacity building is vital. By developing the local
workforce, McDermott is contributing to broader progress.
In 2024, we became the 昀椀rst large multinational energy service
provider to partner with a local training organization in the Sabah
region –the TAS Institute of Oil and Gas (TAS). Our collaboration
seeks to upskill the local workforce and enhance institutional
capabilities to position Sabah as a strategic hub for energy
projects in Southeast Asia.
Since 2020, we have teamed up with our local vendors to deliver
online training to over 400 Ugandan citizens, both technical and
engineering professionals, amounting to more than 14,000 hours
of instruction. The capacity building initiative directly supports the
Tilenga development – Uganda’s largest energy project to date –
ensuring its bene昀椀ts extend well beyond the project’s operational
lifecycle.
