PRACTICING CIRCULARITY
THROUGH DECOMMISSIONING
Another of our 2024 contracts involves performing early EPCrelated services for the Willis Sustainability Fuels sustainable
aviation fuels facility in the United Kingdom.
We are helping to transform Vietnam’s energy landscape
in engineering and delivering the Block B gas development
project central processing platform.
Our recent removal of all Santos Campbell platform structures
offshore Western Australia demonstrates our decades-long
know-how in circular practices and subsea project execution.
The agreement attests to McDermott’s experience in
integrating design, fabrication, and installation, and our
capability across lower-carbon solutions.
Working in partnership with Petrovietnam Technical Services
Corporation (PTSC), we are enabling Vietnam’s transition to
reliable, gas-to-electricity solutions, providing engineering,
procurement, construction, installation, and hook-up and
commissioning services for a central processing platform,
which will feed a gas-昀椀red power plant complex.
The challenge involved navigating stringent requirements for
the removal of aging infrastructure from its waters. Central
to our success was a custom-built lifting cradle, designed
by our experienced engineering team and built in-house at
our Batam fabrication yard. The lifting cradle enabled us to
overcome unique complexities posed by the platform’s upper
substructure -- a component that underwent repair in the late
1990s through the installation of a grout sleeve and presented
uncertainties regarding its center of gravity in the removal
process.
Throughout our operations, we seek to work with customers on
projects that support energy transition.
The project leverages McDermott’s strength in high-quality
engineering and global procurement, coupled with PTSC’s
expertise in fabrication.
This project showcases our ability to meet the needs of
our customers and the industry across the value chain.
Decommissioning plays a key role in the circular economy,
and we recognize the importance of supporting the three Rs –
reduce, reuse and recycle – and to stop waste and reduce the
impact to the environment.
